Trustee Biography

First elected as Trustee: 2021

 

Years served: Two, including as Vice-Chair from 2022-2024.

Career:

Before joining the Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) Board, Trustee Riding worked as a PWPSD employee for 31 years. He began his teaching career at Spirit River Secondary School, now known as Spirit River Regional Academy, where he enjoyed teaching Social Studies and English until his retirement in 2020.  

Education:
Bachelor of Education, University of Alberta

Community Involvement:
Over the years, Trustee Riding has supported and assisted in managing many sports teams including the Spirit River Regional Academy's cross country, volleyball, basketball, and track and field teams. He also volunteers for the Dreamer's Lake Slog, an annual cross country event that takes place in Wanham, AB. Since joining the Spirit River Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion in 1995, Trustee Riding has been an active member of the group, and has learned a lot about his community and its residents.

Vision/Goals:
"My goal during my first term as Trustee is to listen and learn about the challenges facing Peace Wapiti Public School Division in delivering a good, quality public education to all of its students. I will also further lobby for an increase in the rural transportation funding that PWPSD receives."
