International Paper donates 180 feminine hygiene kits to PWA

On October 21, 2020, United Way Alberta Northwest representatives Jamie Craig, Executive Director and Tracy Zuk, Resource Development Manager presented 180 feminine hygiene kits to Peace Wapiti Academy (PWA) on behalf of the donor, International Paper Grande Prairie. The kits include feminine products and a positive note for students. PWA was one of two Grande Prairie schools to receive this generous donation.

CCS Junior high students, Indigenous Liaison, teachers commemorate 2,800 children who died in residential schools

An Orange Shirt Day installation at Clairmont Community School (CCS) offers a sobering display of the tragic history of residential schools. CCS Indigenous Liaison and Junior High Art Teacher Sheila Payeur says she shared the National Student Memorial Register with her junior high students, an online list of names of students who never returned from Canadian residential schools. The list, part of the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation Commission website, divulges the names of 2,800 children who are accounted for as having died in the residential school system.

3D Children’s Charity named Friends of Education, PWPSD teacher Nicole Cooper wins Zone 1 Edwin Parr Teacher Award

Grande Prairie, AB – Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) joined with Grande Prairie Public School Division (GPPSD) and Grande Prairie Catholic School Division (GPCSD) in a joint Friends of Education Award presentation to the 3D Children's Charity during a special luncheon yesterday, part of the annual Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Zone 1 meeting held at the Peace River School Division office. Edwin Parr Teacher Award Zone 1 nominees are also honoured at the event for their outstanding first year of teaching, including PWPSD nominee Nicole Cooper of Sexsmith Secondary School who was also named the overall winner for Zone 1.
