Ms. Gardecki, who teaches students in Grades 1 and 2 at Eaglesham School, says she is honoured to be nominated for the award. “I have been so fortunate this year, to work with such lovely and supportive colleagues and community. It was a year full of review, learning, and then relearning; however, I’m looking forward to going into next fall with a little more confidence and a little less trepidation.” She adds that her first year has been amazing and she feels like a completely different person than when she started back in September.
Eaglesham School principal, Mr. Mark Pelley, says despite it only being her first year, Ms. Gardecki has already proven to be a very valuable part of the staff. “Bailey has shown a consistent effort to improve her practice, prioritize inclusion, address Indigenous content, and provide differentiated instruction to each of her students.” He adds that she has also undertaken the role of Alberta Teachers’ Association Rep and Mathematics Lead at the school.
The Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA)’s Edwin Parr Teacher Awards recognize excellent first year teachers across the province. As PWPSD’s nominee, Ms. Gardecki will be recognized at the ASBA Zone 1 meeting where the zone selection committee will consider her for the award. Each year, only six teachers throughout Alberta are awarded the Edwin Parr Teacher Award.
