After much deliberation, the Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) Board of Trustees have made their decision regarding the Whispering Ridge Community School boundary change.

New Harry Balfour School Attendance Boundary

The new boundary will begin approximately 1.5 kilometres south of Highway 43 and a portion of the current southwest attendance area will be moved further west, and families within this area will begin attending Harry Balfour School for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.

The boundary change comes after parent engagement sessions with the Whispering Ridge Community School and Harry Balfour School communities, and due to the increasing enrollment at Whispering Ridge Community School.

PWPSD Board Chair Lori Grant says with the ongoing rapid development of the Whispering Ridge community it was time to make a change. “Today’s utilization rate at Whispering Ridge Community School is 94%, which makes it unfeasible to keep the boundaries the same. Our students deserve the best and by changing the boundaries we will be providing them with smaller class sizes and more space to learn, grow, and have fun.” The boundary change will see approximately 170 students move to the new Harry Balfour School.

Since the school opened in 2018, Whispering Ridge Community School has seen an average annual enrollment growth of 10%, which is anticipated to continue as the area grows.

Kindergarten & New Students:

Kindergarten and new students affected by the boundary change, and who registered to attend Whispering Ridge Community School in the fall, will automatically be reassigned to their new designated school. Families will receive an email from the school once their registration has been processed. Transportation information will be sent out at a later date.
