PWPSD set to honour Remembrance Day

Schools throughout Peace Wapiti Public School DIvision will honour Remembrance Day with student-led ceremonies beginning on Wednesday, November 8; parents and community members are welcome to attend.

Alternative Education

Thursday, Nov. 9 @ 11:00 a.m.

PWEC and PAVE students and staff will observe a moment of silence to remember and honour the individuals who gave their lives fighting for our freedom. Teachers will also share resources on Remembrance Day and Veterans’ Week with their students throughout the week.

Beaverlodge Elementary School

Thursday, Nov. 9 @ 11:00 a.m.

BES will welcome Andy Meggit of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 121 as an honoured guest to speak to students. The school’s Leadership Team will lead the ceremony with the Grade 2 class performing a song. Parents and guests are invited to attend.

Beaverlodge Regional High School

Thursday, Nov. 9 @ 10:30 a.m.

WO Chance Letendre CD, BRHS graduate from Kelly Lake, and recent recipient of The Commander Canadian Army Commendation will present virtually to students and staff. Parents and invited guests are welcome to attend.

Bezanson School

Thursday, Nov. 9 @ 10:50 a.m.

The junior high students will lead the Bezanson School Remembrance Day Ceremony and invite parents and community members to join.

Bonanza School

Thursday, Nov. 9 @ 10:45 a.m.

Each class has prepared a presentation for the Bonanza School Remembrance Day Ceremony; community members are welcome to attend.

Clairmont Community School

Thursday, Nov. 9 @ 10:30 a.m.

Band students will perform during the Remembrance Day Ceremony, where classes will lay their wreaths, share readings, and participate in a moment of silence at 11:00 a.m.

Eaglesham School

Nov. 11

Junior high students will observe Remembrance Day by participating in the Night in the Trenches activity, where they will dig trenches and conduct activities typical of a WWI soldier.

 

Students will meet at the school at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10 to participate in the unique experience. They will then lead the community ceremony at the Eaglesham Centennial Hall, starting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 11.

Elmworth School

Thursday, Nov. 9 @ 10:30 a.m.

During a school-wide assembly students will share poems and artwork, and take part in a moment of silence; parents and community members are welcome to attend.

Harry Balfour School

Thursday, Nov. 9 @ 9:30 a.m. & 10:45 a.m.

HBS invites families and community members to attend its two Remembrance Day Ceremonies:

  9:30 a.m.: Grades K-3

10:45 a.m.: Grades 4-8

Each homeroom will lay a unique wreath, made by the students, during their respective ceremony.

Helen E. Taylor School

HET will have special guests, musical performances, and a slideshow during its annual Remembrance Day Ceremony; all parents and community members are welcome to join.

Hythe Regional School

HRS invites families and community members to join students and staff for its annual Remembrance Day Ceremony. Choir students will sing songs, and members of the Hythe Legion will be in attendance.

La Glace School

Performing Arts Academy students will lead the Remembrance Day Ceremony. Families and community members are invited to take in student performances, artwork, and individual readings.

Peace Wapiti Academy

A group of teachers and students have created an interactive slideshow that each class will work through individually.

Penson School

Penson School invites parents and community members to join as students and staff hear from a Veteran, participate in a moment of silence, and listen to the Grade 2 and 7/8 classes recite Flanders Fields in both English and French.

Ridgevalley School

Thursday, Nov. 9 @ 10:45 a.m.

Parents and community members are invited to join the students and staff of RVS, distinguished veterans, and Legion members during this year’s Remembrance Day Ceremony. Students will share readings, lay their wreaths, and participate in two minutes of silence.

Robert W. Zahara School

Parents and community members are invited to participate in RWZ’s student-led Remembrance Day Ceremony.

Rycroft School

Rycroft School invites families and community members to its annual Remembrance Day Ceremony, hosted by the Grade 7/8 students.

Savanna School

Savanna School’s Student Council invites families and community members to join them at their annual Remembrance Day Ceremony. Poems will be read by students in Grades 3-6, and artwork by the K-2 students will be on display.

Sexsmith Secondary School

Students and staff have invited special guest speakers to participate in the SSS Remembrance Day Ceremony where they will recognize both Indigenous Veterans Day and the traditional Remembrance Day.

Spirit River Regional Academy

SRRA families and community members are invited to the school for its annual Remembrance Day Ceremony.

Teepee Creek School

Families and community members are invited to this year’s Remembrance Day Ceremony, which will be led by the students and attended by Legion members.

Wembley Elementary School

Families and community members are welcome to join WES for its Remembrance Day Ceremony. Grade 2 students will recite a poem, and the Grade 3 students will read In Flanders Fields.

Whispering Ridge Community School

Thursday, Nov. 9 @ 10:30 a.m.

WRCS’s Remembrance Day Ceremony will begin with the school band performing O Canada and Amazing Grace. A Grade 4 student will sing Tim McGraw’s If You’re Reading This, and students in 2P will recite a poem. Each class has created a wreath to present during the ceremony.
