PWPSD to offer students locally-developed courses

The Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) has received Board approval to offer locally-developed courses this fall. Locally-developed courses go above and beyond the provincial curriculum, are developed by school divisions, and are taught by certified teachers.

Director of Education Services Penny Rose says although she added some of the courses to the list, most of the approved courses were requested by PWPSD high schools:

  • Astronomy
  • Aviation Flight
  • Braided Journeys
  • Creative Writing and Publishing
  • ESL Core Courses - ESL Expository English
  • ESL Introduction to Canadian Studies
  • ESL Introduction to Mathematics
  • ESL Introduction to Science
  • Fire Rescue Services
  • Guitar
  • Hide Preparation and Tanning
  • Medicine Wheel
  • Musical Theatre
  • Myth Busting Methods
  • Seven Teachings
  • Theatre Appreciation
  • Tipi Making (elder Chronicles)
  • Water Experiences
  • Winter Travel
  • Yoga

Board nominates the County of Grande Prairie for Friends of Education Award

 
PWPSD has nominated the County of Grande Prairie for the Alberta School Boards Association 2023 Friends of Education Award. The award recognizes individuals or organizations who are demonstrably committed to improving education for Alberta students, and who have made a significant contribution to education in the province.

Board approves changes to electoral boundaries

The Board has approved the third and final reading of Bylaw 23-39 relating to Electoral Boundary Adjustments. With the adjustments, the electoral boundaries for Wards 1, 4, and 6 will now align with the municipal boundaries in these areas.
