The Board has approved the request for a formal application to Alberta Education for three additional modular classrooms: two for Peace Wapiti Academy, and one for Whispering Ridge Community School.

CCS Parent Council seeks in-community bussing

Jennifer Weinkauf, President of the Clairmont Community School Parent Council, submitted a request to the Board for in-community bussing beginning in the fall of 2023. Weinkauf spoke about how the traditionally young community is growing north, away from the school, which is causing an increased need to provide safe transportation for young students.

Board approves Annual Education Results Report

The Board approved the 2021-2022 Annual Education Results Report (AERR), a report that details how the Division is meeting the goals set by Alberta Education, and how it is addressing priority areas it has identified. The AERR can be viewed in its entirety on the PWPSD website.

Audited financial statements approved

PWPSD Secretary Treasurer Ralph Paquin presented the audited financial statements for the year ending on August 31, 2022 to the Board for approval. The Board voted to approve the audited financial statements, as well as the transfers to and from reserves.

Quick facts:

  • Buses are cancelled at -40°C excluding wind chill, or -48°C with wind chill (Source: Weather Network).
  • With 100 bus routes operating across more than 16,000 km2, varying road and weather conditions are common.
  • PWPSD is divided into seven zones, which are based on high school attendance areas. In times of inclement weather, all buses associated with a particular high school attendance area are cancelled at the same time. Any or all seven zones could be cancelled at any time. Parents of elementary students should know which high school is associated with their area, as outlined in Policy EEAF – PWPSD Buses and School Operation during Inclement Weather.
  • It is important for students to always dress for the weather. Wait times could be extended due to weather and road conditions.
The best way to stay up-to-date on your bus's status is to download the Bus Status app! The user-friendly app allows you to follow all the bus routes, or just your buses. Find full instructions on how to download and use the app here. You can also find your bus's status at transportation.pwpsd.ca.
