COVID-19 cases confirmed at one PWPSD school, April 26

Grande Prairie, AB – Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) is providing the following daily summary report of COVID-19 cases in schools for Monday, April 26, 2021. The affected school has sent letters to their families.

Out of respect for the individuals who tested positive for COVID-19, and in accordance with AHS guidelines, no further information will be shared about the cases. PWPSD and the affected school wish the individuals a safe and speedy recovery, and will continue to work closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff. Remote learning opportunities will be provided to isolating students. The affected school has been disinfected. AHS is expected to provide all close contacts with further direction on testing and isolation instructions.

 

Case report for Monday, April 26, 2021:

  • Two cases at Peace Wapiti Academy. The cases were last in school on Friday, April 23. Close contacts will isolate until Thursday, May 6 (close contact on April 21); Friday, May 7 (close contact on April 22); or Saturday, May 8 (close contact on April 23).

Additional information:

  • Sexsmith Secondary School announces changes to at-home learning plan. Due to the number of isolating staff and students, PWPSD has approved the following short-term operational shifts. The school has communicated this information to their families.

    • Grade 7: Remote at-home learning beginning Tuesday, April 27. Return to school on Monday, May 10.
    • Grade 8: Remote at-home learning that was due to end on Friday, May 7 has been extended. Return to school is now Monday, May 10.
    • Grade 10: Remote at-home learning beginning Tuesday, April 27. Return to school on Monday, May 10.
    • Grades 9, 11 and 12: No change. Students will continue with in-school learning.


  • Spirit River Regional Academy moved to ‘outbreak’ status. PWPSD received notice today that the school has been moved to ‘outbreak’ status on the Alberta Government COVID-19 School Status Map. An outbreak is reported when five or more cases are confirmed in an investigation, where the disease could have been acquired or transmitted in the school. An outbreak investigation is considered over when there have been no new confirmed cases in the school for 28 days.
