COVID-19 case confirmed at one PWPSD school

Grande Prairie, AB – Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) is providing the following daily summary report of COVID-19 cases in schools for Friday, April 16, 2021.

Out of respect for the individual who tested positive for COVID-19, and in accordance with AHS guidelines, no further information will be shared about the case. PWPSD and the affected school wish the individual a safe and speedy recovery, and will continue to work closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff. Remote learning opportunities will be provided to isolating students. The affected school has been disinfected. AHS is expected to provide all close contacts with further direction on testing and isolation instructions.

 

Case report for Friday, April 16, 2021:

  • A case at Spirit River Regional Academy. This is the first case for this school. The case was last in school on Tuesday, April 13. Close contacts will isolate until Tuesday, April 27 (close contact on Monday, April 12) or Wednesday, April 28 (close contact on Tuesday, April 13). The school has sent letters to all families.  

Additional information:

  • Due to staffing shortages resulting from isolation requirements, the remote learning plan for Grades 11-12 students at Sexsmith Secondary School that was due to end on Tuesday, April 13 was extended to Grades 9-12 students for the remainder of the week. Students will return to in-person learning on Monday, April 19.
