Woking School Status Report

The Woking School Status Report (included below) and the following letter were mailed to key stakeholder groups during the week of February 22, 2021.

Dear Parents/Guardians, Students, Staff and Community Members of Woking School,

Over the years, Woking School has seen a gradual enrolment decline, an increase in combined grades, smaller cohorts, and limitations in curricular and extra-curricular programming.
Administration feels the number of students and staff has declined to a level where continued operations will result in an inequity in education for students who attend Woking School. Therefore, at the February 18, 2021 regular Board Meeting, I made the recommendation that Woking School be closed permanently at the conclusion of the current 2020-2021 school year.

Prior to making any decision, the Peace Wapiti Public School Division Board of Trustees has directed me to share my recommendation and the Status Report to the Woking School community, as well as others who may be impacted by any decision the Board makes concerning this recommendation.

To collect your thoughts regarding the recommended closure of Woking School, Peace Wapiti Public School Division invites you to participate in a ‘Thought Exchange’ – an online platform where you can provide your feedback to help us understand your opinions on the future of Woking School. In addition to sharing your thoughts, we invite you to return often to rate 20-30 of the thoughts submitted by others. Your participation is confidential, so no one will know who shared or rated which thoughts. The Thought Exchange will remain open until Monday, March 8, 2021.

How to access the Thought Exchange:

Your input will help us understand the impacts of school closure to the families that attend Woking School.

Alternatively, you may also contact Peace Wapiti Public School Division Senior Administration by emailing [email protected]. Please note that this email address will close at 4:00 p.m. on March 24. As students, teachers, parents, staff, and partners, your voice is important to us.

Sincerely,

Bob Stewart, Superintendent
