COVID-19 cases confirmed at two PWPSD schools

Grande Prairie, AB Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) has been advised of single cases of COVID-19 at two schools:

  • Rycroft School: The individual last attended school on Friday, January 22.
  • Whispering Ridge Community School: The individual last attended school on Wednesday, January 27.

Administration at both schools communicated the information to their respective families and staff on Thursday, January 28 after learning about the positive test result.

Out of respect for the two individuals, and in accordance with AHS guidelines, no further information will be shared. PWPSD and the schools wish the individuals a safe and speedy recovery, and will continue to work closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff.

 

School remains open for in-person learning, close contacts advised to isolate

On Thursday, January 28, school administration provided the following information to all families and staff members:

  • The plans set in place to create zones and cohorts have worked as planned, and helped in the successful completion of contact tracing with AHS.

  • The identified close contacts were notified and advised to isolate.

  • Remote learning opportunities will be provided to isolating students.

  • AHS is expected to provide all close contacts with further direction on testing and isolation instructions.

  • Students and staff not identified as close contacts do not need to isolate and can return to school on Monday, February 1 following the scheduled staff professional learning day on Friday, January 29 – a non-school day for all students.

  • Both schools have been disinfected.
