COVID-19 case confirmed at one PWPSD school, June 2

Grande Prairie, AB – Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) is providing the following daily summary report of COVID-19 cases in schools for Wednesday, June 2, 2021. The affected school has sent letters to their families.

Out of respect for the individual who tested positive for COVID-19, and in accordance with AHS guidelines, no further information will be shared about the case. PWPSD and the affected school wish the individual a safe and speedy recovery, and will continue to work closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff. The affected school has been disinfected. AHS is expected to provide all close contacts with further direction on testing and isolation instructions.

 

Case report for Wednesday, June 2, 2021

  • A case at Robert W. Zahara Public School. The case was last in school on Monday, May 31. Close contacts will isolate until Tuesday, June 15, unless otherwise directed by AHS based on the new quarantining guidelines related to immunization.

New quarantining guidelines

Close contacts who have been partially (one dose) or fully (two doses) immunized against COVID-19 were advised to call AHS at 811 to discuss the possibility of a modified quarantine period, based on new quarantining guidelines related to immunization. Since only AHS has the authority to modify an isolation period, those identified as close contacts were also advised not to contact the school office for guidance on isolation.

Outbreak status lifted at four schools

  • On June 2, 2021, PWPSD received notice that Peace Wapiti Academy has been removed from ‘outbreak’ status on the Alberta Government COVID-19 School Status Map.

  • On May 31, 2021, PWPSD received notice that three schools were removed from ‘outbreak’ status on the Alberta Government COVID-19 School Status Map: Clairmont Community School, Hythe Regional School and Sexsmith Secondary School.

An outbreak investigation is considered over when there have been no new confirmed cases in the school for 28 days.
